November is Epilepsy Awareness Month – Let’s Talk About It!

Once again, it’s that time of the year when we push Epilepsy Awareness. It is one of the only conditions which still gets swept under the rug as people are uncomfortable thinking about it, much less talking about seizures. It’s a fact of life for hundreds of thousands Floridians and many Veterans who are returning as Wounded Warriors with head injuries.

There are still misconceptions out there as to how to deal with a person who is experiencing a seizure so November is a good time to get educated and spread the word so others will become educated, too. Thanks to the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida for all their help in supporting so many families both financially and emotionally during a time when support is needed most.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) is a fantastic organization devoted to assisting those individuals, and their families, with tools, both financial and emotional, to manage seizure disorders. The support this Foundation offers is invaluable. Anyone who has a family member or friend with Epilepsy ought to check them out. Alison and I attend a support group meeting each month at the New Smyrna Beach library. There are others located throughout Volusia County, as well as the rest of the state.
